Kathiani residents in Machakos county today went to the roads protesting over the bad degraded road that connects the two main economic zones of the sub-county.
At kaani, a road that connects Kitui road to Kathiani market with jembes, spades, and wheelbarrows the residents were forced to do the road by themselves to enable proper connectivity and avoid inconveniences as rains are expected to pour any time.
The residents claimed that their area MP Robert Mbui has never commented on the matter even after complaining to him on several occasions. They now decided to do it as a community knowing that the road was tendered. Since 2015 there has been no progress.
With a site board indicating that the road was given by national government a tender that was won by Nyoro constructors, the company since then only came to the site for a year and left having done a quarter of the road and since then what remained on site is the signboard meaning money was squandered.
“We ask the national government to intervene since this is a major road economic wise, we do french bean farming on this area and with this kind of road it’s so difficult to manage on transport expenses and that means we are incurring serious losses,” Nguli said.
The residents who were full of anger asked the churches in the area to join them in repairing the road before it gets worse.
“On approaching the county government things could not work since everyone we talked to said that it’s a tendered and awarded project by the national government and we can’t interfere so it’s our cry to President Uhuru Kenyatta intervene on the matter,” they said
