Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leader Raila Odinga today faced hostile ground after a section of Ombeyi Ward residents in Muhoroni, Kisumu County opposed an industrial park project in the area.
The residents who carried placards staged protests alleging the land where the industrial park project will sit was grabbed.
The angry residents argued that their land was being forcefully taken for a project they don’t support and which they were not consulted.
They added that they want their land more than the industrial park.
Trouble started when Mr Odinga who was giving his speech said the industrial park is more important than leaving the land idle.
The residents started shouting while lifting their placards disrupting Raila’s speech for a moment.
They were then roughed up by those supporting the project as Mr Odinga tried to calm the situation.
The situation was controlled and Mr Odinga continued with his speech.
He urged the residents to support the project as it will open the region for trade.
The ODM Paty leader was accompanied by Cabinet secretaries Peter Munya (Trade and Industrialisation), James Macharia (Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development) and John Munyes (Mining).
