Machakos county executive for health and emergency services, Anset Kituku, yesterday dismissed press reports that a baby disappeared from the Machakos level five hospital soon after being born.
Kituku said the dead baby was born on Wednesday evening through ceaserian section and developed complications before passing on a few hours later while undergoing management.
The health executive said the 17 year old mother,a form three student was awake during the procedure and saw her baby as he was taken away to an incubator for specialized treatment.
” It is misleading for a section of the press to claim that the baby disappeared soon after birth yet nothing could be further from the truth” the health executive said.
He added that the mother was shown the remains of the male baby after efforts to resuscitate him failed and wondered where the story of disappearance came from.
Dr Kituku further said a DNA test would be conducted to confirm that the dead baby was sired by the young mother to clear the air once and for good.
The body was subsequently moved to the hospital mortuary as the mother recuperated in the maternity wing of the county’s premier health facility
