Physically handicapped pupils at the Machakos school for the disabled benefitted with wheelchairs and other walking facilities from the Machakos county Government worthy over sh 750, 000.
Presenting the wheelchairs to the boys and girls at the school, Machakos county CS for Education Mr Lazarus Kivuva, said the school which received sixteen wheelchairs was among many others in the county which was earmarked to benefit from the budget of Sh 20 million set aside for the project.
Mr Kivuva said the county Government had taken the initiative to better the lives of the pupils in the schools most of whom came from poor families and others total orphans.
He said the budget would also be utilized to issue education bursaries to needy pupils and start new programmes in the schools that will nature hidden talents of the pupils among them singing, drama etc.
The CS praised teachers in the Institutions for working under difficult circumstances saying teaching was a call and not just any other profession as people imagine.
He said the county Government was determined to rehabilitate all such Institutions in the county that had almost stalled.
The school’s headteacher Mr Ndeto Ndunda, thanked the county Government for the donation saying the move would motivate many pupils from poor families whose wheelchairs had broken down.
Most parents appreciated the gesture for reducing burden of buying the wheelchairs for their poor pupils.
