Governor Sonko breaks down as he swears to defend rights of the poor, says he is ready to die

Yesterday, Thursday, May 23, 2019, an audio recording of a phone conversation between Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko and Embakasi south member of parliament Julius Musili Mawathe leaked online.

In the phone conversation, very angry Sonko swore to stand with the poor and resist any kind of eviction and demolition planned by Nairobi land cartels. He was referring to the eviction of slum residents in Mukuru Kwa Njenga slum in Embakasi South Constituency planned by the cartels. The governor said he is ready to die to protect the rights of the poor.

He also revealed that on Wednesday while in River Road, he was told not to speak about President Kenyatta and Opposition chief Raila Amollo Odinga.

Sonko said this was because Kenyans are bitter with the government as they are suffering. He added that the people are not happy with the President because of the bad people surrounding him. It reached a point where the governor could not continue and he ended the conversation. Reason? He broke down.
