Her Excellency Governor Charity Ngilu today held a consultative meeting with officers from National Agricultural and Rural Inclusive Growth Project (NARIGP) which is funded by the world bank.
Under the NARIGP world bank has committed to support and improve the Honey value chain which the Governor is championing in the county.
The project will benefit areas previously dependant on the production of commercial charcoal and the county at large.
The county government banned the burning of commercial charcoal due to its negative impact on the environment.
They will also train farmers on modern beekeeping practices, support them with state of the art equipment for harvesting honey among other areas of partnership.
The support will also see Kitui County start its own honey processing company that will package, brand and market Kitui’s high-quality honey.
The team was led by Mr. James Musinga of World Bank, Dr.michael Njuguna a consultant with World bank, Mr. John Kimani from National technical advisory committee (NTAC) and Annastacia Kivuva from Ministry of Agriculture
