Governor Mutua condoles with Matuu accident victims

Machakos governor Alfred Mutua today said lack of proper enforcement of traffic laws was responsible for the grisly road accident early this morning that claimed 15 lives.

A bus heading to Nairobi rammed into a stationery lorry in Matuu, along the Nairobi-Garissa highway in Yatta sub county in the worst accident that has happened in the county this year.

Mutua at the same time said stationery lorries in the middle of the roads were a death trap and both police and county Inspectorate should ensure they are put aside as soon as they stall.

The governor also sent his condolences to the family, relatives and friends of those who perished in the crash including relatives of Wajir governor Ali Roba.

He added that Inspectorate personnel who fail to enforce the law will be dealt with accordingly as most accidents are avoidable if motorists adhere to traffic laws.

The governor was speaking outside his office after meeting the newly appointed board members of Machakos and Mavoko municipality who have been approved by the county assembly.

He told the members to immediately start preparing for the long rains by ensuring the drainage  and sewer systems were fully functional and road embarkments re- inforced.
