Machakos county governor Alfred Mutua was this morning honored to host Thailand’s Minister of Public Health, Hon. Prof. Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, M.D., in his Machakos office.
Prof. Sakolsatayadorn and his team of senior advisors and public health officials are in Kenya to advise the counties on Universal Health Coverage because they are at the infancy stage of this program that they have perfected in Thailand.
They were accompanied by H.E Cherdkiat Atthakor, Thailand’s Ambassador to Kenya escorted by the vibrant Principal Secretary of Health, Ms. Susan Mochache and head of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) coordinating department, Dr. David Kariuki and other senior officers.
The Thailand team gave Machakos county new ideas as they discussed Mutua’s goal for Machakos to create the landscape of the best and most efficient public health sector for Machakos people.
Governor Mutua said “My team of Deputy Governor, Francis Maliti and nominee County Executive Committee/Health Advisor, Dr. Ancent Kituku and other Machakos officials were impressed by the new methods being used in Thailand to make provision of healthcare more patients’ oriented.”
“In Machakos we commit over 30% of our total budget to healthcare – probably one of the highest allocations in the world – because health care provision is not only a human right but also very dear to my heart and central to quality of life and economic development of our people. It is also the bedrock of Maendeleo Chap Chaps’ people – empowering ideology and part of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s brilliant Agenda 4 pillars.” The Machakos governor added.
